On a gray, rainy afternoon in October 72 employees from Mars Wrigley in Hackettstown gathered for lunch, team building and a show of support for Veterans.
The event took place at the Panther Valley Country Club. Set up in the dining room were two long tables. On one sat plastic tubs filled with a variety of toiletries and on the other table the tubs held cold weather accessories, hats, gloves and scarves. All of the item were donated by Mars Wrigley.
After a brief introduction of Project Help by its Executive Director, Sandy Mitchell, the Mars staffers lined up to begin assembling the items. Within 20 minutes they had filled approximately 300 bags with toiletry items and 150 bags with cold weather accessories such as hats, gloves and scarves. The bags will be distributed to Veterans in need.
“It is such a great feeling to know there are organizations like Project Help out there that assist our vets, particularly those driven with such compassion,” said Donna Farino a Benefits Administrator for Mars Wrigley. “The sacrifices they and their families make every day are significant, and sadly, overlooked by many.”
The mission of Project Help is to provide all Veterans and their families with the necessary logistics, support and resources to be professionally and personally successful, and to help those who served make successful transitions from military to civilian careers. The original mission of Project Help was to serve the homeless veterans in northern New Jersey. Since then it has been able to expand its services to serve all veterans and includes such things as financial support and legal assistance.
