FROM COMBAT TO CIVILIANS
The Struggles Veterans Face Today

MENTAL HEALTH & SUICIDE
Mental health issues like PTSD, depression, and anxiety remain major concerns for veterans. The veteran suicide rate is significantly higher than the general population, with about 17 deaths per day. Barriers to care, stigma, and a shortage of VA mental health professionals worsen the issue.

HOMELESSNESS
As of 2024, about 35,000 veterans remain homeless. Rising housing costs, unemployment, and untreated mental health issues contribute to the problem. Despite efforts by the VA and nonprofits, homelessness persists, especially among older and chronically ill veterans.

ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE
While the VA serves millions, veterans face long wait times, delays, and unequal access to services. Rural veterans struggle with access, and improvements in care quality and timeliness are still needed.

Economic stability & employment
Many veterans struggle to secure stable, well-paying jobs after service, as military skills don’t always transfer easily to civilian roles. Economic instability often leads to housing insecurity and difficulty accessing services.

Disability Claims & Benefits
Navigating the VA benefits system is often complex, with backlogs causing delays in disability claims. While improvements are ongoing, many veterans still face challenges in receiving the benefits they deserve.

WHAT DRIVES US
Your Sacrifice, Our Mission
Project Help has been a huge blessing for me, after going through a couple of challenging years of losing everything and having no place to live. When I finally got my apartment, Project Help paid one month’s rent for me. Not only were they ready to help but Sandy put me in touch with people/organizations ready to help a Veteran in need.
I’m so grateful for helping me at a pivotal, intricate time. Especially when many of the larger organizations declined to help.
Something that I will never forget about Project Help is that Sandy got to know me personally and she was able to connect me with amazing people who were eager to help me and go far beyond the call of duty.
As a Veteran, it is important for me to know that Project Help is supported and able to continue their work, because they truly have a heart to help Veterans. Sandy, Thank you times a million!
